Love Bites: huge ratings flop, but advertisers still sponsor

By: American Decency Staff

What is that Einstein quote about the definition of insanity, (or I might add, stupidity)?  “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.â€Â It seems the execs at NBC haven’t heard that one because they are still trotting out the awful show “Love Bitesâ€Â on Thursday nights and somehow expecting different results. For apart from the awfulness of the content, the ratings results have been abysmal.  Here is what a few reviewers have written regarding the ratings: -          "Love Bites," failed to meet even the lowest expectations Thursday night. -          "Love Bites," which premiered last week to a dispiriting 1.0/3 in the demo, was down another 10 percent at 10 p.m., drawing a 0.9/3 in the demo and 2.3 million total viewers. -          NBC’s Love Bites dipped 10 percent from its already meager premiere numbers, mustering just 2.3 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating. -          Love Bites – Huge ratings flop However, it’s not the abysmal ratings, but the abysmal content that we are concerned with.  For while by networks standards 2.3 million in a very low number of viewers, we grieve for those 2.3 million people who are taking in the soul-corrupting garbage of “Love Bites.â€Â Last night the trash continued.  The first storyline depicted a woman who is about to have to have a mastectomy throwing a “good-bye boobâ€Â party.  At this breast-themed party, women are flashing and going topless and images of naked breasts are displayed. A married man calls his wife from the party and excitedly tells her:  “Hey babe, you’re never gonna believe where I am.  I’m at this crazy party where all the girls are taking topless pictures and all the food looks like breasts.â€Â The wife is not at all bothered that her husband is ogling topless women and just asks him to bring home cake from the party – sending the message to female viewers that they shouldn’t be bothered by their husbands lusting after other women. One man at the party says, “This is the kind of party God would throw.  I guess He does exist.â€Â It’s not enough for NBC to fill the show with illicit themes, they also make a point of mocking the Lord and His holiness with this offensive comment. Another segment features a man who regularly picks up anonymous women for casual sex and then, while the girl is sleeping, deletes his number from her cell phone and skips out during the night so she can’t contact him for a second date.  He says this practice is “like a condom.  I get to have a great time with a woman without contracting a relationship.â€Â He finds himself interested in dating one of these one-night stands, yet the woman tells him he’s getting too “familiarâ€Â and that he’s “not dating materialâ€Â – she only wanted casual sex. Think about what this show is teaching: legitimizing a lifestyle of meaningless sexual encounters with anyone and everyone. I remember an analogy given by abstinence speaker Pam Stenzel in her presentation “Sex Has a Price Tag.â€ÂÂ  She told her teenage audience that if she stuck a Band-aid on one person and ripped it off and stuck it on another person and then another and another, each time a bit of that person would be left behind on the Band-aid and it would begin to stick less and less.  She equated that to sex with person after person.  Each time you leave behind a bit of your heart so that soon the significance “sticksâ€Â less and less until sex has lost all meaning. Yet “Love Bitesâ€Â positively portrays such meaningless sexual encounters with no physical or emotional consequences and it depicts marriage as basically meaningless, as well, where lusting and fantasizing somehow don’t fall under the vow to “forsake all others.â€Â Order the powerful DVD “Sex Has a Price Tagâ€Â for your children or grandchildren, church or school.  Click here to order: https://secure4.afo.net/ada/store2/ While it certainly isn’t the ratings keeping this show on the air, advertisers have continued to sponsor it.  Some of this week’s advertisers include:  MacDonald’s, Applebee’s, Pepsico, M&M candy, Dr. Pepper, Olive Garden, Chrysler, Sprint, Microsoft and several others.  These sponsors need to hear from you.  Contact them at the link below.
