Your corporation has marketed itself as one concerned about offering healthy choices for consumers, yet your recent television commercial urging women to lose weight so they can fit into sexy Halloween costumes sends a destructive message and objectifies women and girls.
As this NBC report stated: “Eating healthy is something everyone should do year round, but an ad playing on women’s concern for their weight, coupled with an overabundance of very adult costumes (for a night that’s traditionally about children) is causing controversy.”
Perhaps your ad will sell sandwiches, but it is also communicating that a woman’s worth is dependent upon her sex appeal while suggesting women should degrade themselves for the pleasure of men. As you advertise in the future, I urge you to use greater care in the ideas you promote. Your response will determine if Subway will be a fast food choice for my family.
