Question : What is wrong with the Howard Stern Show?
Answer: The promotion and humorizing of such perversions as pedophilia, sado-masochism, oral sex, homosexuality, fornication, unfaithfulness, on the Howard Stern Show contributes to the breakdown of inhibitions, personal and societal decency standards. Question: Who are you guys?
Answer: The American Decency Association. We are a Christian based citizen's organization promoting the biblical ethic of decency and Christian values in the American society. The basic emphasis of the work of ADA is the promotion of the continuation of the Christian view of man.
Question: Why do you want Howard Stern to "act more responsibly?"
Answer: We firmly believe that pornographic and perverse talk like the Howard Stern programming encourages people of all ages but primarily those who are particularly vulnerable (the young and those who are easily misled) into seeking gratification in inappropriate ways. Excessive self-gratification leads to an increased drive for stimulation. An increased drive for stimulation leads to illicit relationships to achieve stimulation. Illicit relationships lead to broken relationships, divorce, separation and abuse. Broken relationships lead to despair and selfishness. Selfishness leads to a compulsive desire for material things. Compulsive desires lead to self at any cost. Self without consideration of consequences leads to abortion, drugs, theft, murder and a wide variety of other forms of mayhem directed at others and ultimately contributes to the further breakdown and destruction of the American culture.
Question: If you don't like the Howard Stern Show, why not just turn the channel?
Answer: Before I answer, please note the following transcript from the Howard Stern Show:
Howard Stern places a phone call to a 16 year old girl who wrote him a letter who said she wants to give her virginity to Stern.
HS: "When did you realize you want to lose your virginity to me?"
Girl: "I don't know. I guess after I started watching your show for awhile."
HS: "Yeah, you see they get the 'E Show'."
HS: "I just like that I get you all sexed up, you know. That's kind of cool."......
HS: "Believe me I would take your virginity."....... {June 23, 1997}
Our children and our children's children have lives to live. What parent doesn't desire that their child have the opportunity to live in as wholesome and moral a culture as possible.
It is not being intellectually honest to suggest that our culture is not negatively impacted by the Howard Stern Show. Howard Stern is not concerned about the perverse influence that his daily broadcast of up to 5 hours a day has upon millions of listeners.
Numbers of us are, however, deeply concerned about the health, safety and welfare of our children. We are merely attempting to campaign for rationality, responsibility and for decency for the sake of our children. As perverse influencers like Mr. Stern dump their filth talk upon millions of listeners every week day, you are being naive if you think that untold numbers of individuals don't become perverted in their thinking, conversation, attitudes and life. There was a day in our country where parents could feel very comfortable allowing their children to take walks and ride their bikes in smaller communities as well as cities. That day is gone. Read the newspapers.
Turning the channel does not solve the problem. Our children have to face a culture increasingly populated by individuals who have been exposed to perversion by the likes of individuals like Howard Stern. "Stars" like Mr. Stern are contributing to the moral decline of America. We are not saying that Howard Stern is the sole reason for the cheapening of human life, but clearly he is a factor. Question: You bring up Howard Stern's wife. He has stated numerous times that he has never cheated on his wife. Howard Stern is a faithful husband. Isn't that more than some religious types can say?
Answer: On occasion someone will accuse the ADA of telling others how to think. I find that rather curious. We present our point of view rationally and sincerely, and we, not HOWARD STERN, are considered mind controllers. Yet Howard Stern has hundreds of thousands of persons who think that he is faithful to his wife even as he undresses women in his studio (verbally and/or otherwise? I haven't the faintest idea whether Stern has had one flesh unity with other women. But, being faithful to your wife goes beyond just the body. Does the following dialogue represent a man who is faithful to his wife in his thought life?
Stern: I just want to take that piece of ass body, put tape over her mouth, and do things to her. Have her lay by my pool in a bikini and have her come out and service me. I'm laying by my pool, Kim comes out nude.. And then, like, I reach in and yank out her vocal cords. And then she just orally satisfies me by the pool. She's totally a mute Kim and she's totally nude. Oh. Then I break her legs and position them in the back of her head. And they're permanently fixed like that. (September 4, 1997)

Question: America is about freedom. You are walking in Adolf Hitler's footsteps. Don't you understand what freedom is all about?
Answer: Whenever I read this kind of comment I wonder "Is this person really being genuine?" My grandfather fought in World War I. My father fought in Germany in World War II. I attended many Memorial Day and Fourth of July festivities as I was growing up. I also think that I did rather well in my schooling having done reasonably well in government classes. The freedom that has been impressed upon my heart, soul, mind and spirit has been a freedom balanced with responsibility.
American is a land where freedom is celebrated, loved and cherished and maintained by the balance of law and order. If the time ever arises where American citizens are free to do whatever they desire without the restraint of law, America will cease being a land of the free and become a land of chaos -- everyone doing that which is right in their own lives without concern for the individual and societal consequence of their actions.
It is my contention that Mr. Stern speaks irresponsibly and thereby promotes decline, lawlessness which ultimately is contributing to societal chaos -- increasing numbers doing what is right in their own minds without consideration for individual, family, or societal impact. One example (though many various ones could be used in a similar way to make the point):
Stern: "... It's a pretty good magazine...its got some pretty cool articles about bestiality. ... This guy made it with a dolphin. ... Evidently, there's tons of bestiality going on, dogs cats. ... In the privacy of your own house you can whatever you want to your cat or your dog. ... Evidently, you can lay down on land next to these dolphins. ... And then, supposedly, when you're having, you know, sex with them, actual intercourse ...they are supposedly rythmic and fantastic." ...
Stern: "So I get my wife up in the room ... I said, 'Shut up, I'm fantasizing you are a dolphin ... My wife isn't that mobile. I had to displace a few joints."
Stern: "Hey, you want to talk to a guy who had sex with a sheep back in high school?" ....... Caller: "You get them (the sheep) into a stream about three feet deep of water. ..."
Stern: "Didn't the wool get a little messy?" .......
Caller: "Put their hind legs up on a couple of stones in the water." ........ So when the time is right you kick the rocks out from underneath their hind legs ... and they start bucking."
Stern: "I do that with my wife..."
Caller: "...Once they start bucking for an adolescent it is quite enjoyable." (July 15, 1997)
I can assure you that my grandfather and my father along with millions of American men and women did not shed their blood for an America that held this kind of cheapened view of life. Howard Stern's freedom is a self-centered freedom. He dupes millions into believing that he is doing a noble thing fighting for freedom when in fact he is lining his own pocket book at the expense of untold numbers of individuals who see him as some kind of American hero, "a champion of the First Amendment". It would be laughable if it weren't so tragically true that millions think Stern is a hero. As you and numbers of other gullible ones see Howard Stern as a "hero", you help move this culture little by little to further lawlessness and ultimately to chaos --- freedom without responsibility not only over the airwaves but in the streets. Question: Who are you to determine what is morally appropriate?
Answer: As I read numbers of email messages, I sense some bitter feelings toward God. There are those who express a very rebellious attitude in regard to standards of right and wrong. I do not believe that you and I, that life, creation, came about by pure coincidence -- that there was a great explosion and that life evolved out of nothing -- primordial slime. That may be your view. If you hold to that view then you would also probably believe that there is nothing sacred about human life. Why not then think it funny when a young mother tries to flush her new born baby down the toilet?
Stern: Personally, I want to date 'prom mom'. ... Any woman who can cut off an umbilical cord with a toilet dispenser is pretty cool."
Guest: "But if you are dating her, what are you going to do when you get her home - eat the after birth?"

If you hold to a chance origination, it is highly probable that you feel that "what's right for me may not be right for you." Therefore you would find it perfectly fine to find nothing wrong with the following:
Stern: She is light, though, you could flip her around. It's almost like having a love doll.
Robin: Yeah, like one of those blow up dolls. She doesn't weigh much more than that.
Stern: She couldn't weigh more than eighty pounds. ... Tie her up. Feed her - like a bird.
Robin: A few worms.
Stern: Yeah. Flip her around, break her legs. ... Yeah put a plastic ball in her mouth. And you spread her legs apart and you don't know your own strength and you break her hips. ...

A devalued view of women, sex, life -- lawlessness -- societal chaos. My view of life runs totally counter to that of Mr. Stern's. I do not believe life is cheap. I do not believe that women are to be sexually used and abused. I do not think it a cool thing or funny to talk about having sex with dolphins.
I believe that there is a purpose for life; that life is sacred because there is a Creator God who is above all, through all; who is all knowing; who loves you and me. He is our Creator. He created the Heavens and the earth. I believe that by His Son Jesus Christ that we can have eternal life; that life is precious; that humankind should be treated with dignity. I believe that the pattern for living is contained in the Bible; that there are moral absolutes - there is right and wrong. And my guess would be that many of you reading this (even if this angers you or is foreign to you) that you have or had a father, mother, grandfather or grandmother who shares or shared very clearly and firmly the values that I am articulating.
I am not trying to force my morality upon anyone. This morality that I am standing for is far bigger than myself or the ADA. I encourage you to pull out your Bible and become acquainted/reacquainted with what your Creator has to say about life, death, love, truth, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, joy, peace, decency, contentment. It is also my view that if numbers of us don't begin to recognize our own responsibilities in thinking rightly and living rightly that we are going to allow the likes of morally bankrupt entertainer/pornographers to lead us in paths of unrighteousness, lawlessness and hasten societal chaos. |
