| Stern fan and Bill Johnson |
STERN FAN: I find it interesting that in the advertiser withdrawals section of your website no mention is made as to which products or services pulled their advertisements from the Stern Show affiliates. It would seem to me that
they should be proud to give their company names on your web site so that
they could gain free advertisements with your company.
Bill Johnson: Many of the businesses probably would be more than happy for us to use their name. We have always made it a policy not to provide corporate names. We know, and they know. We would benefit more than anyone. It would be a "feather in our cap." But, we aren't trying to "toot our own horns" but rather to just do our job well.
STERN FAN: Wouldn't like minded individuals benefit from knowing which companies these are? I sure am interested in knowing which companies pulled their advertisements. Many times I think these testimonials are made up by your company.
JOHNSON: Like-minded individuals would like to know. Our primary concern is protecting the corporations. If we provide the names of companies as they withdraw from advertising on Stern, people like you could try to hammer on them by urging your friends to target them. That wouldn't be fair to the corporations choosing to withdraw from sponsoring Stern filth.
STERN FAN: You take credit for normal shifts in a companies advertising dollar by stating, not directly of course, that the company pulled its ads because of a lack of decency on the Stern show. However in most cases the company simply changed its target demographic.
JOHNSON: It's obvious you've been listening to Stern's line on this. Without a doubt, (I would imagine) there are times when corporations have pulled not just because of our letter urging them not to sponsor filth. We don't pretend to know the motivations of over 15,000 advertisers who once advertised on Stern's show but who no longer do. We don't have to know. What we are encouraged by is that for whatever reason, over 15,000 advertisers that once advertised on Stern's radio and television shows no longer do.
STERN FAN: Snapple is one such advertiser. I'm sure you would love to take credit for their lack of advertisement on the Stern show, however the company, already having solidified their customer base in the Stern arena has decided to turn its advertising dollar on the harder to reach 35-45 demographic. To do this they began to sponsor sporting events such as football and Nascar type events.
JOHNSON: You obviously think you know more than you do. We have a totally different perspective on this particular advertiser, and it doesn't match
your opinion. |
| Howard Stern fan and Bill Johnson |
STERN FAN. I just spent a few moments looking at your Howard Stern
Information Action Page. It seems that you have dedicated, and continue
to devote a great deal of time and effort to attack Stern and his radio
show.
BILL JOHNSON: We do continue to spend a good deal of time on monitoring
Howard Stern's radio and TV shows. We send hundreds of letters to
advertisers each month and have since 1996. Over 15,000 advertisers that
once sponsored Stern no longer do.
STERN FAN: Frankly, it is unfair and un-American to single out someone
whom you find offensive, and attack them in this manner. You have a
choice, your unalienable right, as I do, to either listen to Howard's
show, or not. I listen, I get it.
JOHNSON: We have singled out Stern because as we began monitoring him
in 1996 Stern was considered the trashiest show in America. He prided (and
still prides himself) on bringing television and radio to new low levels.
Since he was so arrogant and aggressive in promoting sleaze, we believed
it was important for him and for CBS/Infinity to know that if they
intended to use Stern as a battering ramp to new levels of filth they
would not get to those lows without experiencing some financial loss.
They weren't going to trash America's morality without some "pain".
You call this un-American to single him out. we call it old fashioned,
God honoring, American patriotism - to oppose what is evil and love what
is good.
STERN FAN: His satirical views of American life, personalities, etc., are
often hysterically funny, and most often dead on right. I don't always
agree with his viewpoints, but I'm sure he doesn't always agree with mine,
and that is perfectly OK with me. Once again, I can listen if I want to,
or not. The problem that I have with you people is that you have chosen
to monitor his show, take everything that he says that you may consider to
be controversial and plaster it on your site (when "clipped" from a
conversation, some things may seem offensive...but when you listen to the
show on a regular basis, in it's entirety, you see that it is satire, and
cannot be taken verbatim).
JOHNSON: Whether I'm smart or not, that isn't the question here. I do
have the capability of understanding satire and there is a place for it.
But, Stern is a millionaire. He is unconcerned about the impact his
pornographic program is having upon our culture. We all are impacted by
what we listen to and view. Stern's filth has apparently desensitized you
to the point where you are confused at what is worthy of being entertained
by and that which is toxic, irreverent and promoting harmful thoughts
and actions.
Here's one of Stern's satirical moments --
Molestation legitimized -- Stern laughs in the background --
Stern: (this parody). It's called "I love little girls."
With musical background --
I saw her standing there by the gumball machine. Knew she couldn't have
been more than thirteen.
Stern: (laughing in the background)
I lured her to my car - with a chocolate candy bar. She took off her
training bra and set me free -- yah - free. And I could tell it wouldn't
be long 'til we'd be doing something kinky.
Singing - I love little girls - who haven't gone through puberty. I love
little girls. Because there's no chance of pregnancy.
Stern: I love it (the parody) because I want to meet the guy (who wrote
it). ... I love little girls.
Robin: Guess you have to be a guy to appreciate it.
[September 7 and 11, 2000]
STERN FAN: Clearly, you guys just don't get it. But how can you launch a
campaign to deny this man a right to a living? I am sure that most of the
people that side with your organization are not Stern listeners...so leave
it that way, and leave people like myself alone. I would curious to know
if any of your monitor/crusaders ever broke into a smile while monitoring
this program, or even laughed out loud. Surely, you would banish these
people to the confessionals...
JOHNSON: Which of us understands and which one doesn't? hmmm.
You don't have much to worry about Stern being destitute. Though 17
radio stations have dropped Stern over the last couple of years, his
recent new contract ensures that he will remain a multimillionaire. You
don't have to lose any sleep over whether Howard Stern will have a roof
over his head tonight or tomorrow.
Have we laughed at anything Howard Stern has said on the air? Yeah. Once or twice. We have, but mostly we pity Stern. No one is more desensitized and confused about what is damaging about talking about having sex with little girls than Howard Stern. He doesn't get it. He needs our prayers.
STERN FAN: I hope that you have the decency to include this letter on your
site.

Below a writer takes issue with our monitoring of the Howard Stern show.
ADA takes a few moments to respond to a few of his issues. Here they are: |
CRITIC - (1) You're group frightens me!
Whether you agree with what Howard Stern says or not, It is not up to you or your organization to decide if he should be on the air.
ADA RESPONSE. It's a big leap between monitoring Stern/writing letters to his advertisers urging them not to place their advertising dollars with filth and determining if Howard Stern should or should not be aired. ADA is not an ultimate decision maker in regard to whether Stern is or is not aired.
We have seen many times ADA is doing a service FOR corporate America. There have been many advertisers who didn't know their dollars were helping to keep Stern on the air until we informed them.
(2) Why exactly are you afraid of Howard Stern anyway?
ADA RESPONSE. We aren't afraid of Howard Stern. However, we have children to raise. Programming that trashes life, decency, and basic standards of human dignity erodes our abilities to bring our children up to be civil, decent, life respecting, God honoring.
(3) Would you prefer that everyone be as narrow-minded as yourself and not be able to express their thoughts, or worse hear a different point of view?
ADA RESPONSE. You say that ADA is narrow-minded. Is that because you don't agree with ADA? Apparently, you are accusing ADA of what you are guilty of - calling ADA narrow minded because ADA does't agree with you.
(4)Should radio and all other forms of media contain 24 hours of Christian broadcasting?
ADA RESPONSE. This person seems to think he's got me pegged. I very seldom listen to Christian radio. Am I in favor of Christian programming - 24 hours a day. It depends on what is being programmed. There is a lot of trite programming in the name of Christ that I think is very unfortunate.
(5) You must have forgotten that this country was founded on several beliefs... Freedom of speech and freedom of religion being two of those.
ADA RESPONSE. Again, this person is so strongly opposed to ADA regularly expressing our concern to corporate America by way of letter that he wants to take away our right to express our concern. If he is a defender of the freedom of speech here, we would hate to see
an enemy.
(6) Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers have died to protect our freedom. That includes Stern's freedom to broadcast. You are doing nothing but spitting on the graves of our soldiers when you try to suppress Stern's freedom of speech.
ADA RESPONSE. This critic is doing his own re-write of what American patriotism is.
My father fought on foreign soil. Dad would say something like this - Freedom without responsibility leads to chaos and ultimately anarchy. He has said many times - "It is so much harder to raise children today because of the trash that sex entrepreneurs push down our throats - in the name of art and freedom."
Am I spitting on the graves of our soldiers? Not according to the ex-soldier I love the most - my Dad. A veteran of World War II. He's proud of me for what I'm doing. He knows it takes a lot of caring, commitment, conviction and love of country to do what we are doing here at ADA. It's truly American in the best sense. |
| Stern fans sound off |
You EXPLETIVE, anti-american conservative!! What makes you think you have the right to tell me what I can listen to or watch. I think your
citizenship should be revoked. They should box you up and send you to China where you'll be with more people who share your views towards freedom of expression. If you don't like it then don't listen. That's the choice that
you do have. But don't start trying to make choices for me. I hope you
encounter every obstacle possible in your endevor and wish you the worst
luck in your personal life.

good afternoon or morning depending when you receive this e-mail.
i have to say i am fully disgusted with your acts and the impudence in which you claim the right to be able to judge and command what people see, hear, or think. i for one do not see where it says in my copy of the constitution that bj has a right to tell me what i can or can not
do. and you will say we aren't doing that, but what do you all it when you take away what i find amusing and really not a bad way of entertainment. sorry you have a problem with stern but guess what. you can change your radio channels. thank god for a wonderful country like
America where men and women can choose to do what they wish say what they wish, and listen to what they wish. i personally do not watch pornography, but i am sure that with the unusual sexual experiences i have had, i can make quite a few. you really EXPLETIVE me off when you threaten a persons lively hood or their rights as guaranteed by the constitution. My grandfather fought for the rights to do what we do today? did you ever fight in the armed services? i am betting not because you sound like a sniveling little coward anyways. you are a back stabber and slap our forefathers in the face with you assuming you can decree what is obscene and what isn't. last time I checked it was every citizen's right to choose what they think is obscene. you must really be high on power or just good drugs to think i care what you like and do not like. free speech is guaranteed in the bill of rights and i will not go down and be the robot you have following you and wiping your EXPLETIVE.
when you decide to join the USA again, please let me know, because i hear Russia isn't the commie hell hole you apparently must be writing your little threatening letter from. i think you might like Cuba as they still have no real personal freedom there. must be hard going down the road with all those ladies in bikinis while you swear their obscene you are drooling to the beat as they walk. we are Americans and i believe that being free white and over 21 i can make my own decisions as you do not support me or my family.
in parting words please take an aeronautical interlude in a fast donut on a steep hill. in other words please take a flying leap.
sincerely yours.

| Sternite confused by years of relativism, secularism. He rationalizes away God and His great love and all sufficiency for life and death |
I would love to see the looks on your faces if, when you die, there is nothing else... you just cease to exist. Of course the irony of that is that in just ceasing to exist there would be no look on anyone's face because you would be completely unaware that you had spent a lifetime living up to some moral code of conduct that was not dictated by some omnipotent god, but existed only in your collective imaginations.
I would guess that many of you at the ADA (by the way, that's the American Dental Association) have reversed this little scenario I just submitted to sway many a non-beliver. (Oh, he'll be sorry he lived like he did when he's burning in Hell forever.) I admit it could go either way, but I feel pretty confident about my chances. I don't think I'll be the victim of any god's wrath anytime soon. In fact, it scares me about as much as it would if I had really ticked off Santa Claus (another fairy tale, but unlike your god, only children believe in him) .... |
| A Stern fan weighs in --- |
Hmm... I stumbled onto your website while looking for Howard Stern fan sites, and like a lot of people, I find your web site amusing. I don't agree with it at all, especially some smart-aleck comments you write in the "Stern Fan Chat" section of your page.
Two that really bugged me were
"For Stern fans it's seemingly very difficult to communicate without using expletives. Examples abound - the one below is but one example" and "This fan thinks and talks like Howard. Hmmm."
With these ignorant comments, you 1) stereotype Stern fans into one mold, and you 2) Imply that anybody who has harsh words, whether it be about religion or anything else, was influenced by Stern. Another thing, no matter how many times you claim you don't "hate" Stern, it is obvious throughout your page that not only do you hate him, you despise him to the utmost. By the way, where is your "Eminem Information Page," or "Marilyn Manson Information Page," or even "KKK Information Page."??? I am not great with words, but Steve Alho's letter, more or less conveys exactly what i'm feeling. Finally, I let my 17 year old twin sons watch Stern, and they have been watching for about 4 years now. Now before you characterize me and judge me as a bad parent, which I know you probably already have by now, I just want you to know that my sons are two of the most upstanding people I know. As far as your stance on religion, I leave you with quotes from two of my favorite movies.
"Organized religions destroys who we are by inhibiting our actions, by inhibiting our decisions, all out of fear of some intangible parent figure who shakes his finger at us from thousands of years ago" - Dogma
"Let me give you a little inside information about God. God likes to watch. He's a prankster. Think about it. He gives man INSTINCTS! He gives you this extraordinary gift, and then what does He do, I swear for His own amusment, his own private, cosmic gag reel, He sets the rules in opposition. It's the goof of all time. Look but don't touch. Touch, but don't taste! Taste, don't swallow. Ahaha! And when you're jumpin' from one foot to the next, what is he doing? He's laughin' His sick, EXPLETIVE EXPLETIVE off. He's a tight- EXPLETIVE ! He's a sadist! He's an absentee landlord." - The Devil's Advocate |
Stern expresses his arrogance in contributing to the diminishing moral values in America.
For those who think it's cool that America has lost its moral bearings, you are having your way. Will you also think it's cool as children falter morally and experience the consequence of infidelty, sexually transmitted diseases, divorce, broken homes,
troubled children, lying and cheating? |
Stern: I believe I am the man of the millenium. I'll tell you why. ...
I believe particularly with our show going national and then going into Los Angeles. I believe that this show has changed the way people in the Twentieth Century look at language, mores and even every show that's on television has been affected - language, the attitudes, the willingness to explore different topics, the openness, and I believe this show has changed the entire entertainment medium.
There isn't a show now that I watch now that I don't think has been affected. Especially cable channel. You can see the influence of this program. And it's not even my theory. Marvin Kittman said it from News Days, a writer, a television critic, you can look up his articles. He said it when I went into Los Angeles. He said "From this day forward all of these producers and all of these Hollywood writers will hear the show, and it will begin to alter the way we look at the medium."
So I believe I am the man of the millenium. That I have been responsible for a total cultural change.
Robin: Now isn't it just like you to sneak in at the end of a millenium and steal it.
Stern: And steal the millenium.
Robin: LAUGHTER. ... |
| Stern's fans love him because he ridicules truth, right and wrong, justice, God and His standards. |
| However, right and wrong aren't arbitrary .
Biblical proclamations of thou shalt not .... are not man created
opinions as Stern's fan below arrogantly babbles. One day each one of us will know. Heaven and hell are real. Wait and see.
What kind of world will we have if Stern's valueless view of
life prevails? For those of you who despise standards of right and wrong, you are getting your way - FOR NOW. Lawlessness. Immorality. Your way is prevailing!
But the Bible says that is the way it will be before He comes again as the Righteous Judge. Then it will be too late. Think about it.
It's not too late.

- It's a joke when you wrote that homosexuality n s-m are some kind of perversion ?
- D'you really think when my dog EXPLETIVE me it does him harm n i'm a pervert ?
- Why is there so much "expletive" in your site, were not in a f****** church of s*** were on the Internet, if some1 wants to write EXPLETIVE, EXPLETIVE, EXPLETIVE, EXPLETIVE in a site he can still do it...
- Don't you think Howard has the right to blaspheme god and not to have christian opinions (pro-life...) as long as he's leading a non-religious syndication ? Very funny, really (i bookmarked it !) .. |

If you really cared about your kids, you would be supervising them yourselves and all the other "smut" on other forms of media. Lame white morality being shoved down the throats of the american people by thoughtless soldiers to a totalitarian state. Corrupting and misinforming people on the teachings of your bible for the sake of fundraising. You are morally bankrupt criminals, and are the reason I don't classify myself under the demographic of "christian". Why don't you recollect on all your other "crusades". The family structure has crumbled as a result of cultural imperialistic puritains like yourself. Cliches. One of the cliches that Howard regularity promotes is the ole priests molesting little boys. Has it happened? Sadly, yes. But to hear Stern it's every priest - in every town.
Stern's cliches are effective. He's got many of his fans using those lines with us fairly regularly.
Below is another flow of thought that emanates from Howard's propaganda. Here it is - GOD DEMANDS TOLERANCE OF EVERYONE.
So everyone - tolerate everything, everyone - the serial killer, the pedophile, the molester of the little baby. Just look the other way.
Right? |
Howard often goes too far. Hes rude, crude and obnoxious, to use a cliche. But to be fair, let's compare him to his opponents. Christians, I'm sure you know, are responsible for more murder, hate, intolerance, sexism, and hypocrasy than any other group of individuals on earth. Now I'm sure you won't finish this e-mail, but I just feel like saying this on a lazy Sunday morning. Christians do not follow the word of God. God demands understanding, loving, and forgiveness. Forgivness and tolerance of everyone, Mr. Stern included. To do what the ADA is doing is the very definition of sin. To be close minded and hateful. Now, those at the ADA may say that they aren't being so, but you would merely be proving my point. You are close minded, sinful people. Shame on you. God compels you to forgive, to tolerate, understand, and most of all, turn your cheek.
You may reply, I'd be curious to hear your mindless retort.

| 18 Year Old Young man expresses sincere concern regarding ADA campaign |
Dear Sir,
My name is Eric ..., i am 18 years old, and i am a Howard Stern fan. I have found your site most interesting, and i thought i would comment to you on my thoughts.
First of all, i respect the position you take. However i feel the need to pose the basic question on my mind-- if i like it, what right is it of you to tell me i can't listen to howard stern? Granted, i don't think young children should be allowed to listen to his show, but this is a matter for the parents (christians or otherwise) to decide. To say that Howard Stern is worst influence on American culture would (to put it mildly) give the man more credit than is due. Could you not look at music groups, rappers, even hollywood movies in the same manner? Our youth have virtually the same access if not more to this material. Howard Stern is a DJ on the air for four hours a day, most of which time kids are in school.
Personally, i've listened to Howard for about three years. I'd like to think of myself as an upstanding citizen, good student, with a solid work ethic. My attitude towards life is alongside of Kant-- live and let live.
My letter was not to criticize you sir, as others have been, but rather to ask certain questions that i truly am curious about. I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thank you for your time.
Eric M. |
ADA RESPONSE:
Dear Eric:
Some of us feel a strong compunction to do what we can to speak positively and passionately for decency over the airwaves. The kind of filth that Stern
communicates isn't a good thing for young men like you or for anyone for that matter to be listening to.
If you were my son, I would be saddened and disappointed. I would lovingly do my best to remind you that your mom and I had trained you to set your heart and mind on things above not on things dishonoring. We would remind you of God's love for you in Jesus Christ.
Our point of demarcation would be in regard to our view of the creation of the world. God is the creator. Man needs a savior. We have the means of redemption through God's Son, Jesus Christ. God gave us the Holy Bible for edification, instruction, counsel, to see our need for God - to turn from our wicked ways and to turn our hearts to Him.
As His creation, we have either acknowledged our need for salvation, confessed our sin and put our trust in God or we haven't. We are either on our way to Heaven or on our way to Hell.
Howard Stern is not satan nor is he the worst influence on the American culture. But he is aggressively evil in his arrogance to trash any vestiges of decency yet remaining in this once moral land.
Thanks Eric for the kind manner in which you wrote. If you want to discuss this further, please contact me again.
Sincerely,
Bill Johnson |
| What does it mean to lack spiritual moorings? Certainly, a percentage of pubescent boys could think the way the STERN FAN below thinks. Does this represent the "true majority of Americans?" If it does, America's future is even bleaker than what it already appears. |
| Don't you just love Howard Stern? His show last night where he was spanked by Mistress Elaina was an all time classic. Stern repeatedly shows Americans how we really are, free to express ourselves without any concern for the constricted conservative moronic opinions of idiots like the Moral Minority or Christian Coalition. Thank you Howard Stern for standing up for the rights of the true majority of Americans! |

His style of humor/satire is not for everyone (turn the radio dial!) but he is devoted to his children and is honest to a fault.
The Howard Stern show is more popular than ever (his show just began in Cinncinnati, Ohio). So why don't you direct your petty attacks towards someone more deserving? Like hypocritical, manipulative televangelsists, i.e. Jimmy Swaggart and Peter Popoff?

Dear Mr. Johnson
Filth will prevail . As long as there are people who enjoy Stern's radio program such as myself it will continue to be broadcast . There is nothing you can do about it . I don't care if you feel that your religious views give you the right to take my right away to listen to
Stern's radio broadcast , Stern will still be broadcast . I know you can't get 97.1 to remove
Stern from the air , he made that radio station what it is today so I will continue listening to what you term " filth " enjoying every minute of it . Your Socialist attempts at censorship will not prevail. Stern is alive and well enjoying the beautiful woman who are guests in his studio. Breasts and all. |
| Stern fan desires that filth prevail. Refers to ADA efforts to stand in opposition to porno filth as injustice - because he wants to hear dirty talk. |
Why does it concern you, that some of us have an agenda separate from yours? Since I don't believe in god, and therefore, according to you, I'm going to hell. Why can't I have a little bit of enjoyment before I get there? Why must you so selfishly take something that you find unenjoyable and take it away from everyone? I don't attempt to make things that you find enjoyable incapable of existing. Your crusade for the children, is the lowest form of morale warfare. This is the approach that is used to justify; war, the war on drugs, and all sorts of other things that have been wrong with our countries history. I would like to remind you, if you find something objectionable on the radio, the radio is equiped with a dial, and you are able to turn the dial and find something that you find enjoyable. This is America, and everyone should be able to do their own thing, in their own time. Including me, and you.

| Stern fans detest it when ADA writes letters to advertisers asking them to withdraw from sponsoring filthy programming. Why? Stern fan responds: |
Greetings fascist swine,
I just finished perusing your puerile Howard Stern site and I must say I find your paternalistic, holier-than-thou attitude truly neurotic. I suppose it's useless to be writing to you since you'll just parrot to me in reply the old line about how "I must be born again", but I wonder what makes you fundies think that EVERYONE HAS TO HAVE THE SAME BELIEFS YOU DO. Even if I did believe that anyone who was amused by Howard Stern would be damned to Hell for all eternity, isn't it enough just to advise people about what is good and what is evil? I would be wrong if I begrudged you your opinion, ridiculous though it may be, and I do not. But to seriously campaign for him to be removed from the airwaves is more than just blatantly unconstitutional, it's also a hindrance in your own misguided religious crusade. After all, human beings must have a free will. If all temptation is taken away, and only non-sinful things remain, is it really one's own choice to be good? To apply that principle to this situation, it is useless to try to eliminate Howard Stern-- or any other "immoral" influence-- since anyone with a passing familiarity with Christian theological theory (read: 99.999% of America) ought to be able to peg Howard's show as "sinful" and the truly "saved" would be avoiding it anyway. Anyways, your efforts are wasted since everyone knows that the American Decency Association, Focus on the Family, the Christian Coalition, ad nauseam are just a bunch of Bible-thumping hicks whose heads are stuck in the 16th century. So put that in your Republican-financed-tobacco-filled pipe and smoke it.

P.S. I challenge you to write a response to this letter that deals with the issues I have (somewhat emotionally, I admit) presented without resorting to the phrase "I pray that you see the error of your ways before it's too late" or something similar.

| Stern's influence shows |
| You people are EXPLETIVE pathetic. You can't put the responsibility all on Howard Stern for a screwed up society. The same EXPLETIVE you listed going on was going on way before Howard Stern was even alive. You can take your conservative morals and shove them up your EXPLETIVE EXPLETIV E. That type of ignorance won't get you by in society today.Obviously you don't live in reality. You can't even deal with a radio show. Go EXPLETIVE your god. |
| Stern fan articulates his opposition to ADA concerns |
I used to be a christian but I no longer want to be, I believe homosexuality to be ok, same with masturbation, you may have a point with some of the violent or abusive porn, etc. ill give you that but I have found that:
1) I refuse to uphold pro-family views that people that believe in God have
2) society really bites.
3) Id rather do what I want. |
| For Stern fans it's seemingly very difficult to communicate without using expletives. Examples abound - the one below is but one example. |
| You people need to get a life. Get laid, go outside, something. Stern is funny. He is entertaining. You people EXPLETIVE . EXPLETIVE you All. |

| This writer though succinct in his comments speaks for a fair segment of Stern's audience. |
| Get a life. There is no god, and religion is for the simple-minded. |
| This fan is sorry that Stern was dropped on WRCQ and says if we are responsible "Shame on us." |
| I am very sorry that the Howard Stern Show was dropped by WRCQ in Fayetteville, NC. I was a faithful listener, and enjoyed it immensely. If you indeed are one of the reasons it was dropped, then shame on you. I am an adult and do not need you to police what I listen to. Thanks for nothing. |
| This Stern fan sees American Decency as human wastes and idiots |
| What the EXPLETIVE kind of drugs are you people smoking or sniffing? Ever heard of the first amendment, you idiots? It guarantees our right to speech, press, assembly, religion, and petition. That includes Howard Stern. If you don't like what he has to say, turn the EXPLETIVE EXPLETIVE channel! It is people like you human wastes that are the problem with America today. If Stern were not around, would your little freaks that you call your children not be able to hear or see this stuff somewhere else? God knows, they probably watch and/or listen to him when you are gone preaching your stupid- EXPLETIVE views. Since you are obviously trying to turn us into Communists, why don't you take your stupid- EXPLETIVE , and your f***ed, no, I'll say it (after all, this is still a free country) your EXPLETIVE up views and move to a Communist country, and take your should-have-been-aborted kids with you..... | Clyde is a 33 year old Navy veteran. He has a strong aversion to religion. Clyde says we're trying to cram religion down his throat. |
Dear Sir,
My name is Clyde and I am a 33 yr old Howard Stern fan. I have read your site and find it...well amusing. First of all I am a professional in the Computer industry, served my country in the Navy for 10 years, and find myself a devoted and caring family man.
I, being a devoted patriot of this great country, will respect your position as we are free in this country to think for ourselves.
But what I must ask is why do you feel you have the right to force your issues on me. I like to listen to it and you don't. So why not turn it off? No one is forcing you to listen. Sure you heard it before, but what about the kids? If parents these days would take care of there kids and teach them, we won't be worried about Howard teaching them. I listen to him and I haven't rushed out to do something rash or violent. In fact, I am still trying to find out how he influences people. Most of my friends who listen, don't consider him any different than anyone else. He sports his own feelings, thoughts and ideas. Does that make him the enemy. I could say the same about you. You are trying to influence me.
The answer lies in religion. You push it, he doesn't. Case closed. I'm sure you are going to guess that I'm not the religious type, and you would be correct. Now I'm sure you are going to attack my thoughts on that now. Don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings. I understand it is the way of the religious person to demean or feel better than one who isn't.
I can hear it now, "I don't feel that way, just feel you haven't found God my son."
What do you think that statement says? If I had a dime for every time I heard that. So please if you are going to respond to me please don't bore me with your religious rhetoric. Its been 2000 years and the world is allot bigger than a few hundred miles. I don't need the thought of an almighty to keep on the straight and narrow. I use my intelligence for that.
So now that you know my stance as well as your own we can get to the real meaning of my writing this note. I know this is a free country, I even fought for the freedom, so I respect that people have very different views. What I don't believe in is the way we fight. If you go to the radio station and complain it's one thing, go to the FCC its another, but to use extortionist tactics against sponsors is another. Howard, the sponsors, radio stations, and everyone else associated with the show are trying make a buck. For you to resort to these tactics should have made you realize that your complaints weren't as powerful as you thought until you wanted to hurt their business. this I can't excuse. I had met a Korean new to the country
some time ago and ask him what he thought of America. His response was "Korea is to strict and America is not strict enough." "Too many people here feel they have the right to force their thoughts on you."
Well I have said enough for this has surely fell on deaf ears. I don't criticize your views just your tactics. Remember one thing I didn't ask you to fight Stern for me, nor do I want you to. I have my own opinions along with the Millions of other Stern Listeners. I will decide the morals for my family you will not.
That my friend is guaranteed in the Constitution under Freedom. So quit hiding under the blanket of religion because it turns the stomach of more and more people these days have religion forced down their throat. What's going to happen when all the Baby Boomers die off and we have this low period of older folks. Not so many then looking for something to grab on to before death. Then the next Howard will appear and where will you be then.
Respectfully,
Clyde |
| Shaw thinks we should find a better cause. Says we need to find humor in life. |
So sad to see that you people can't find a better cause. Howard is the least of what you and others should be worrying about. There are Global issues far greater in need of action. What a sad waste of time by a group. I hope that you find the humor in life and let others smile at what they find funny. I will continue to support the advertisers of Howard Stern, 97.1 and 105.3 (LA and San Diego)
I wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you find more worth wild cause!

| This fan thinks and talks like Howard. Hmmm. |
Let's face it, from greatest to least, from people to yeast,if abortion was SO bad the Almighty would have made women's uteruses a lot better because an awful lot of fertilized eggs drop out of there like a period. It's true. God,King of All Abortionists.
Howard is so right. Unwanted children in New York. Lou Reed wrote "Dirty Blvd." you should listen to it sometime. All New Yorkers are pro-choice or they should get out of town. |
| This individual has a brain and lots of passion but why does he so passionately take the side of filth and immorality/amorality and not have even a degree of energy and passion to promote what is good and oppose what is evil? |
To whom it may concern at the American Decency Association,
I can't believe that anyone with half of a brain can even consider fighting such a ridiculous, self-righteous, hypocritical cause.
Now, I know you probably have heard this a million times already, but it still stands true - if you don't like Howard Stern, there are 2 dials on your radio or TV that allow you to do one of 2 things:
change the channel/station, or
(imagine this) turn the device off!
Also, as a parent, you have the ability to control what your child is allowed to watch or listen to, so please, feel free to establish your own rules in your own house for your own family. At the same time, please stay out of my house!
How dare you stand up and take the position that you know what is suitable or acceptable for me and my family! And how dare you impose threats upon the sponsors who spend their money to advertise their quality products on the shows that I choose to listen to or watch!
Are you so blinded by your own self-righteous cause that you feel it is acceptable to not only deny people their first amendment right (an amendment as established today as it was back when this country was"moral"), but to actively attack companies who try to reach an audience, so they can make money to fulfill their obligations to their stockholders, and pay their employee's salaries? Is it acceptable for you to take actions which in turn hurt organizations trying to turn profits to pay their investors and employees? As far as whether or not these companies are reputable or offer quality products, that should be based upon the experience one has when using or purchasing them, not by where they choose to market their products.
And in your letter to Eric M. you state:
"Howard Stern is not satan nor is he the worst influence on the American culture. But he is aggressively evil in his arrogance to trash any vestiges of decency yet remaining in this once moral land."
Perhaps you can educate me on when this land was once Moral? I believe this land was very moral, up until 1492, when the wonderful God-fearing Europeans landed here. After that, they brought Christianity , and oh yeah, they brought Slavery, diseases, murder, and eventually, they brought Howard Stern's grandparents, much like your ancestors and mine! I think you need to study history a bit more, to understand that as long as man has been on this planet, their was never a moral time period.
So when was this land moral? I need to know. I feel that you would greatly benefit from a College level Social History class - And when I say social history, I don't mean the history of socialism, so no need to refer to me as a pinko, or commie. I mean the history of attitudes, beliefs and influences that have taken place in this country over the centuries of it's existence, such as McCarthyism, anti-immigration-ism, Darwinism, etc.
And how dare you use my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as reason for self profit and self-righteous purposes. It is the Lord who will judge Howard, me and you. Let's not forget who Jesus preferred to associate himself with. He surrounded himself with the less fortunates - the diseased, prostitutes, tax collectors, gamblers, drunks, etc. So with that, I'd say worry about yourself.
As I read your FAQ section, I see you constantly saying " I believe" this, and "I believe" that. Well, did you ever consider that some of us don't believe the same things you do, and understand that this is an extreme comedy show that isn't for everyone? What the creator says about Life, love, goodness, etc. may be different in interpretation to someone else. Isn't the Christian religion you practice different than the Christian religion that the Catholics practice? The bible has been picked apart and changed to suit every Christian organization's own benefits.
You think that by quoting a few lines from the bible, and rapping yourself in a shroud of Christian morals justifies the use of scare tactics against reputable companies, and those who like to listen to a radio show? Your totalitarian approach to social control is not unlike the Nazi's. And if you think society and media has become less moral because of people like Howard Stern, you are sadly mistaken.
I find Howard to be very funny and honest. At times, he does say or do some things that either offend or bore me, but to solve this problem, I just tune into another station. The only reason Howard gets the media attention he does is because of people like you who hope to ride his coattails for your own profit and gain. (and don't even try to deny it).
Howard is a person who is not afraid to speak about the conditions society has come to. He is a voice making comments on the state of society today, as it exists. Some of it is good, a lot of it is bad. He is not a voice contributing to the fall of our society. It is not people like Howard who have made me more cynical and untrusting of my neighbor or the passer-by on the street. It is the so called 'Moral Leaders" in both Religion and Politics that have contributed to my cynicism and distrust by consistently letting us down over the years. Look to your Faldwells and Bakers, religious shyster's who have abused their positions to take money from those who have little to give. They help to build the false faith of those who pray for deliverance everyday, while they take the money of the faithful to build satellites and cable
companies, or web pages like this, which do nothing but spawn more intolerance for different views . I'm not angry at God, but am truly angry at organized religion.
Howard may voice his opinions, and some of them may not be what we want to hear, but that's ok. Howard never asked anyone who listened to his show to act upon the things he says, because if they don't, they will burn in hell when they die. He is not a role model for social structure, nor (seriously) claims to be. Now, can Jim Baker say the same thing? If I'm not mistaken, he didn't practice what he preached. Now who should I be more disillusioned by? A man of god committing adultery and sodomy, asking people to live like himself, or some whacko on the radio spanking a girl with a fish, because she likes it and finds it fun?
Howard doesn't have a position of authoritative Power, so by him getting on the airwaves and talking doesn't mean that we all have to listen to him, and it also means that we do not have to perform the things that he showcases.
And the example of abortion you use on your website. Are you also so dense that you can't see the social commentary Howard is making on abortion? Abortion is wrong, no 2 ways about it. But the problem here isn't abortion. It's the fact that no one wants to take responsibility for their own problems. Yes, abortion is wrong, but so is having children and not caring for them. And you don't have to be a single parent to qualify as someone unable to care for a child. If everyone wants to see abortion go away (which would be great) what do we do with the unwanted pregnancies? Are you willing to take in five children besides your own to ensure that these kids grow up with the same advantages as your own children? And if you take on 5 more children, will your quality of life be as good as it was before these 5
kids arrived? Think about that. I personally am against abortion (and for the record, am against sex with animals, incest, and other topics on Howard's show), but I can't enforce my beliefs and decisions on someone else. You want to. I also know the difference between a joke and reality, but apparently you don't.
What it comes down to is a matter of taste. In your opinion, Howard has a lot of bad taste. I agree, but I also find some of that funny, much like Saturday Night Live and Monty Python.
If Howard Stern is so evil, then let's get him off the air! If getting him off the air will take the time, money and energy your organization is spending to solve real problems like unwanted children, AIDS, overcrowding, world hunger, battered woman, etc, then let's do it. In fact, I bet Howard Stern would be willing to leave the airwaves if you made that promise, as well as all of the other organizations out there championing the same censorship fights. But wait! If we are such people of God, and want to truly take responsibility for our own problems, why not skip the Howard Stern part, and focus on these other real problems? Imagine that! If we solved all of these other problems, Howard wouldn't have much to comment on now, would he?
You want to hear a sad observation I have on certain parts of the population of this once "Moral Land"? It saddens me that phony, false-prophetic, religious yahoos like yourself have not gone the way of the carnival side-shows - silly little performances by people with certain unusual talents or afflictions.
Passionately yours,
Steve Alho |
