Attacks upon the Word of God are not new. From Athanasius defending the doctrine of the Trinity against heretical attacks in the 4th century, to modern day politically-correct efforts to neuter the Bible from male gender references (i.e. the controversial “gender neutral” TNIV), as well as the New Oxford Annotated Bible giving a pro-”gay” and feminist re-writing of God’s Holy Word.
However, I never would have thought that an attack upon the Bible, upon the very doctrine of the Trinity and the sacrament of baptism, would come from ministries that have been highly esteemed and regarded for decades.
Three Christian organizations, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) and Frontiers are re-writing God’s Word to make it “Muslim-friendly.” They are producing Bibles that change the Trinity – removing references of God as “Father” and deleting references of Jesus as “Son” or “Son of God” from scripture.

There is a scene in the movie “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” that reading todays’ news reminds me of.
In it, King Theoden is holding the small fortress of Helm’s Deep, previously thought to be impenetrable, against a horde of tens of thousands of orcs which have broken through the outer wall and now push against the gate of the keep.
Inside the keep is the castle and inside the castle hides every civilian woman, child, and old person – all that’s left of an entire civilization. A few scenes earlier in the movie, one of the main characters, Aragorn, tells King Theoden that the orc army is “bred for a single purpose – to destroy the race of men.”

Do you guard yourself and work to train your loved ones to pursue holiness? Indeed, it is a spiritual battle. Sin is what it is. Temptation is all around us in this media oriented age.
J.C. Ryle writes:
“We are too apt to forget that temptation to sin will rarely present itself to us in its true colours, saying, ‘I am your deadly enemy, and I want to ruin you forever in hell.’ Oh, no! sin comes to us, like Judas, with a kiss; and like Joab, with an outstretched hand and flattering words. The forbidden fruit seemed good and desirable to Eve; yet it cast her out of Eden. The walking idly on his palace roof seemed harmless enough to David; yet it ended in adultery and murder. Sin rarely seems sin at its first beginnings. Let us then watch and pray, lest we fall into temptation. We may give wickedness smooth names, but we cannot alter its nature and character in the sight of God. Let us remember St. Paul’s words: ‘Exhort one another daily, lest any be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin’ (Hebrews 3:13). It is a wise prayer in our litany, ‘From the deceits of the world, the flesh, and the devil, good Lord deliver us.’
[Taken from “Holiness” by J.C. Ryle]
When we place before ourselves wicked things, it incrementally opens up the possibilities for sin. Sin in eye, ear, mind, heart and soul.
