Do a quick search of a Bible concordance for the word “tongue” and you’ll find that God has much to say about how we use that little part of our anatomy.  Nearly the entire chapter of James 3 speaks about the “untamed” tongue equating it to “a restless evil” and “deadly poison.”  And Proverbs 12:18 equates rash words to “sword thrusts.”

While readers of God’s Word already knew that obscene talk has negative consequences, a recent study of Midwestern youths has now “discovered” that fact!

A research study found that:  the more profanity they (youths) are exposed to through television and video games, the more accepting they are of swearing and the more likely they are to use profanity themselves. Those kids who swore more were also more likely to engage in physical aggression.

Glee: Those promoting abstinence are prudes, whackos, or hypocrites …

With all the publicity surrounding MTV’s “Skins” and its explicit portrayal of teenage sex and drugs, the innocuously-titled “Glee” on FOX could easily be considered the far greater threat to the teens and preteens that make up the show’s target audience.

While the content of “Skins” is far more shocking, the danger with “Glee” is found within its huge popularity with young viewers and the subtle and sometimes not so subtle indoctrinating themes of the show.

An article in the Yale Herald, not a publication, one would think, known for its conservative viewpoints, stated about Glee:  “This show does more for establishing stereotypes and ingraining them into our culture than perhaps any other show of our time. Instead of breaking down social norms, it does the exact opposite effect of that and quite possibly has gone about establishing new social stereotypes …”

Every year during the Super Bowl, companies find new clever and/or provocative ways to peddle their wares to the 95 million plus viewers who tune in each year. Every year, there is a new controversy over some new ad, whether it is wind blowing off a woman’s clothes in a Doritos commercial, a woman stripping off her shirt to advertise GoDaddy.com, or Paris Hilton eating a Carl’s Jr. BBQ Burger while washing a Bentley in her bathing suit (very little water or soap makes it to the car), it is abundantly clear that marketing strategists rely heavily on a not-so-secret weapon: sex sells. The Super Bowl has become just as famous for its line-crossing commercials as for its football.
