One person was able to encourage their local Wal-Mart to stop carrying the SI Swimsuit Calendar and recently not to carry the SI Swimsuit magazine.
I personally spoke out at a local gas station and wrote and handed them a letter that stated in part:

Yesterday the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue hit newsstands and magazine racks across the country giving millions of men and boys easy access to pornography in the mainstream family marketplace. Stores that would never sell a Playboy seem to have no qualms about selling the SI swimsuit issue. However, other than the “legitimate” name of Sports Illustrated, there is very little difference between the two.
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is not about swimsuits or famous models. And it certainly isn’t about sports – not even women’s sports. It doesn’t even contain any articles!
This SI swimsuit magazine has one purpose, and one purpose only – the erotic display of young women for the pleasure and self-pleasure of men. Otherwise known as – pornography.
And numbers of mainline corporations empower this sleaze with their advertising. These advertisers need to hear from you! Click here to contact the corporations that support the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit magazine.

The phone rang this morning a little after 8:00 A.M. The lady on the other end of the phone was asking if I had seen NBC’s “The Today Show” news story this morning featuring the 19 year old on the front cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
The caller expressed her heartfelt concern:
(1) while she was being interviewed erotic clips were simultaneously airing.
(2) she was hoping that we would make available an address where complaints could be made to NBC. I assured her that we would make it available.
