ANTHEM: Strategies for Fighting Lust

I have in mind men and women. For men it’s obvious. The need for warfare against the bombardment of visual temptation to fixate on sexual images is urgent. For women it is less obvious, but just as great if we broaden the scope of temptation to food or figure or relational fantasies. When I say “lust” I mean the realm of thought, imagination, and desire that leads to sexual misconduct. So here is one set of strategies in the war against wrong desires. I put it in the form of an acronym, A N T H E M.

First, an update on Abercrombie’s response to the considerable public outcry.
Many of the letters below express horror at the fact that A&F is encouraging young girls to abandon their innocence at such an early age. These kids should not have to worry about the shapeliness of their figure for a long time. They should just be allowed to be kids.
Abercrombie has apparently acceded that point.
They have, however, decided that 12 year olds should definitely be concerned about their breast size.

Life is precious. We just celebrated our three year old grandson’s birthday yesterday. What innocence! His sweet view of life as he enjoys watching the birds, walking through the woods, playing by himself with his trucks and cars and barn and farm animals is a precious part of his young life and a healthy development.
There are many profiteers who don’t give a rip about innocence, purity, wholesomeness, modesty, decency or children. Their greatest concern is marketing and making money- seemingly no matter what it takes, even if it means playing with the moral sensibilities of young children even little girls. Get them to think about sexual things early and to be concerned about their body, ie.. breast size and you can hook them early and teach them to be good little consumers.
Abercrombie & Fitch specializes in degrading childhood, desensitizing them, and drawing them into perversity.
